The DPRK Delegation Participated in MSC 103

The delegation of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea participated in the 103rd session of the Maritime Safety Committee of the International Maritime Organization. The meeting was held remotely from May 5 to May 14 2021.

It started with the election of the Chair and Vice-chair for 2021 and adoption of its agendas. It considered twenty one agendas including adoption of mandatory instruments of the Organization, regulatory scoping exercise for use of maritime autonomous surface ships, bunker oil safety, domestic ferry safety, piracy and armed robbery, maritime communication, search and rescue, ship design and construction, etc.

It witnessed the adoption of amendments to some mandatory instruments of the Organization such as SOLAS Convention, LL Convention, STCW Convention, FSS Code, etc. which aim at the unified approach to watertight door requirements.

Some agendas including regulatory scoping exercise for maritime autonomous surface ships, bunker oil safety, maritime communication and search and rescue were referred to intersessional correspondence groups for further consideration since they needed more administrative perspective and were too technical.
