The DPRK participates in LEG 108

The DPR Korea’s delegation led by Counselor Kim Kwang Min, alternative permanent representative of the DPR Korea to IMO, participated in the 108th session of the Legal Committee of IMO which was remotely held from July 26 to July 30 2021. Present were over 270 delegates from 95 States and 26 intergovernmental or non-governmental organizations. Discussed were thirteen agenda items including fair treatment of seafarers, advice and guidance in connection with the implementation of IMO instruments, measures to prevent unlawful practices associated with the fraudulent registration of ships, etc.

The session was highlighted by approval to the draft unified interpretation of article 4 of the Convention on Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims, 1976 and article 6 of the Protocol of 1992 to Amend the International Convention on Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage, 1969 both of which are expected to be adopted at the 32nd session of the Assembly of IMO.
