104th session of the Maritime Safety Committee

The 104th session of the Maritime Safety Committee of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) was held remotely from 4 to 8 October 2021.

It was attended by representatives from 103 countries, the DPR Korea among them, and 42 UN specialized agencies and intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations.

At the session, the Committee gave in-depth consideration to seventeen agenda items including consideration and adoption of amendments to mandatory instruments, measures to improve domestic ferry safety, goal-based new ship construction standards, measures to enhance maritime security, piracy and armed robbery against ships, implementation of IMO instruments, etc. It adopted amendments to 1988 Load Lines Protocol and International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk by MSC resolutions. In addition, it approved the draft Procedures for port State control, 2021, Survey Guidelines under the Harmonized System of Survey and Certification, 2021 and 2021 Non-exhaustive list of obligations under instruments relevant to the IMO Instruments Implementation Code all of which will be adopted at the 32nd session of the IMO Assembly in December this year.
